From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday from June to August, mobile retailers selling food and fashion will gather at the corner of East 9th Street and St. Clair Avenue in what DCA calls the NineTwelve District.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Piggybacking on the popularity of Cleveland's Walnut Wednesdays, and right on the heels of the news that Geiger's clothing and sporting goods is opening a store downtown this fall, the Downtown Cleveland Alliance has announced a mobile marketplace of local food trucks and retailers every Tuesday starting next week in the NineTwelve financial district.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday from June to August, mobile retailers selling food and fashion will gather at the southeast corner of East 9th Street and St. Clair Avenue. DCA defines the NineTwelve District as the area between East 9th and East 12th Streets, from Euclid Avenue to Lakeside Avenue.
The lineup includes: The Wandering Wardrobe, The Round About, Boca Loca Burrito Factory, Off the GRIDdle and Sweet! Mobile Cupcakery. More than 60 locally owned and operated food trucks will rotate among this spot, Walnut Wednesdays and other downtown venues this summer, said Heather Holmes of the Downtown Cleveland Alliance.
Sponsored by nearby One Cleveland Center, the events are also an effort to highlight the news that 10 new world or regional headquarters have moved into the NineTwelve District since 2011. They include Alexander Mann Solutions, AmTrust Financial Services Inc., BrandMuscle, Britton Gallagher, Gas Natural Inc., and National General Insurance.
"Downtown Cleveland's energy has been consistently moving in a forward direction -- especially over this past year -- and we're looking to keep that momentum going," said Joe Marinucci, president and chief executive of the nonprofit Downtown Cleveland Alliance, in a written announcement. "We want to encourage downtown residents and employees to use their lunch hours to get outside and support local retailers."
DCA said Downtown Cleveland is in the midst of a banner year in retail, citing the Feb. 25 opening of Heinen's downtown store, which increased the city's grocery square footage to more than 50,000 square feet.
The Warehouse District features three new Small Box Shops housed inside converted shipping containers. Current tenants are: The Wardrobe (the stationery version of The Wandering Wardrobe), Banyan Box, and Blue Edge salon.
The nuCLEus project, a three-acre site in the Gateway District, will add more than 150,000 feet of retail space, as well as apartments, offices, hotel rooms and parking.
