Customers who bring in used cribs, bassinets, strollers, car seats, high chairs, infant swings, bouncers, travel systems, walkers, entertainers and play yards will get 25 percent off the purchase of a new baby item at full price, with more discounts for more items.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us stores will offer 25 percent off cribs, high chairs, strollers, car seats and other essentials to consumers who turn in used and potentially unsafe second-hand baby items.
The month-long promotion starts Friday, Jan. 23 and runs through Feb. 21 at the baby retailers' 893 stores nationwide.
Dubbed the company's 10th "Great Trade In," the event has collected more than 1.1 million items since 2009, including things that wouldn't meet today's stricter safety standards because they were missing parts, damaged or worn out.
During the event, customers who bring in used cribs, bassinets, strollers, car seats, high chairs, infant swings, bouncers, travel systems, walkers, entertainers and play yards will get 25 percent off the purchase of a new baby item at full price. For every additional item turned in, the customer can get another 25 percent off a single baby item, with no limit on the number of discounts.
Customers can turn in items from any manufacturer in those specific categories. Daycare centers or others with items in bulk can contact their nearest store to ensure what they want is in-stock.
New parents or caregivers who don't have any items to turn in can download a 15 percent in-store coupon from BabiesRUs.com/GreatTradeIn.
"The Great Trade-In was conceived to bring attention to the dangers associated with potentially unsafe used items in circulation, and we're proud this program has to-date helped remove more than 1 million items from the marketplace," said Toys "R" Us U.S. President Hank Mullany, in a written statement.
Toys "R" Us is hoping participants share what they are doing via social media using the hashtag #BRUGreatTradeIn.
Toys "R" Us' website lists 52 stores within 50 miles of Cleveland, including three Babies "R" Us stores in Mentor, North Canton, and North Olmsted. The website also has recalls and other consumer safety tips at ToysRUs.com/safety.
