Leadership forum honors organizations creating sustainable solutions in Greater Cleveland.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Enterprise Community Partners, Inc., along with sponsors KeyBank, Ohio Savings Bank, a division of New York Community Bank, and Cleveland Neighborhood Progress awarded grants totaling $55,000 to Tremont West Development Corp., St. Clair Superior Development Corp. and LakewoodAlive for innovation in community development, according to a press release from the organization.
The grants were announced Wednesday at the Leadership in Community Innovation Award Forum. After presentations for the third annual $25,000 Leadership in Community Innovation Award by the three finalists, Tremont West Development Corp., Fairfax Renaissance Development Corp. and Northeast Shores Development Corp., a panel of judges named Tremont West Development Corp. the winner for its Tremont Healthy Corner Store Initiative.
The community-based program will encourage healthy living in the Tremont neighborhood by working with store owners, increasing residents' knowledge of the benefits of healthy eating and improving perceptions of Tremont/Duck Island corner stores. Fairfax Renaissance Development Corp. and Northeast Shores Development Corp. each received $2,000.
Enterprise also announced the winners of its Nurture an Idea Award, sponsored by Cleveland Neighborhood Progress and Ohio Savings Bank. The Nurture an Idea Award was shared for the first time by two organizations that won $10,000 each: Tremont West Development Corp. received its second prize of the night for its West Side Bike Share Program and St. Clair Superior Development Corp. received an award for its Design [re] Build initiative. The bike share is part of an innovative transportation model offering economic, health and environmental benefits. The Design [re] Build initiative is a concept providing architecture students with rare, real-life design and construction expertise and the opportunity to save a blighted property.
The winner of the CrowdRise Challenge, sponsored by Ohio Savings Bank, was LakewoodAlive, which raised $4,821 during the campaign for its Community Engagement program and received another $10,000. The program focuses on improving quality of life for low- and moderate-income people through neighborhood-wide events, door-knocking and one-on-one appointments in order to assist residents with maintaining affordable housing and wealth-building activities.
