CLEVELAND, Ohio - An innovation and entrepreneurship summit is coming to Cleveland at the end of October, attracting successful entrepreneurs, corporate leaders and academic experts.

Case Western Reserve University's Innovation Summit 2015,
October 26-28, is touted as a way to learn about national innovation models. Policy makers nationally will examine how diverse regions and industries leverage their strengths to fuel new companies, products, technologies and ideas.

"Case Western Reserve University's Innovation Summit 2015 will offer a rare opportunity to learn about models of innovation occurring nationally from some of the most successful entrepreneurs, corporate leaders and academics in the country," said Joseph Jankowski, the university's chief innovation officer.

"Attendees will also get a chance to tour the seven-story, 50,000-square-foot think[box]--one of the largest university-based innovation centers in the world."

At 50,000 square-feet, think[box] is expected to be one of the world's largest university-based innovation and entrepreneurship centers, featuring resources to allow users to transform ideas into market-ready products.

The newly renovated building houses ample collaboration space, that includes top-of-the-line prototyping equipment, and a fabrication workshop. The center is expected to offer business resources and intellectual property and legal assistance. It even offers incubator space to grow promising startups.

"We've spent a lot of time developing think[box] and integrating it within our community," said Lisa Camp, associate dean for strategic initiatives at the university's engineering school, in a written statement. "That's part of what inspired this summit -- we've created a model that works for us and we want to share that model with others. Think[box] isn't sector-specific or discipline-specific, but it does fit our region."

World-renowned presenters and panelists are expected to offer insights into emerging themes and provide examples of innovative organizations and partnerships. Confirmed speakers include:

  •      Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari and Chuck E. Cheese;
  •      Jim Clifton, CEO of Gallup Inc.;
  •      Jeff Hoffman, co-founder of Priceline.com;
  •      Dale Dougherty, founder and CEO of Make: Magazine;
  •      Curt Carlson, former president and CEO of SRI International;
  •      Cheryl Martin, founder of Harwich Partners and former acting director of the federal Advanced Research Projects Agency--Energy;
  •      Craig Maxwell, corporate vice president of technology and innovation for Parker Hannifin;
  •      Susan Helper, chief economist for the U.S. Department of Commerce;

"We want to explore the intersections of innovation in different sectors and geographies to see where we can find new inspirations and processes that work," Camp said.
