WESTLAKE, Ohio -- The Nordson Corp. is setting records for sales growth and profits.

The company -- a maker of highly engineered production equipment for other industries -- on Thursday reported a 14 percent increase in sales to $469 million for its fiscal fourth quarter ending Oct. 31 compared to the same period in 2013.

Net income came to $72 million or $1.13 per share -- up from a net income of $60 million or 92 cents per share in the last quarter of fiscal 2013.

Nordson manufactures precision production and dispensing equipment for industries as disparate as automotive, electronic, medical and consumer packaging assembly lines.

For its fiscal year 2014, Nordson reported total sales of $1.7 billion, a 10 percent increase over 2013, about half of the increase coming from Nordson's acquisition of other, smaller companies.

Net income was $247 million and earnings per share were $3.84 --  all full-year records for Nordson.

"Nordson delivered outstanding full-year results, setting company records in sales, operating profit and earnings per share while executing on a variety of strategic initiatives that will help sustain our success,"  said Michael Hilton, president and CEO, in a written statement accompanying Nordson's financial report.

"Our global team met strong demand from across our diverse end markets to deliver 13 percent organic sales volume growth compared to the fourth quarter a year ago," he said. "Organic growth was broad-based across all segments and geographies and drove record fourth-quarter sales, operating profit and earnings per share."

Nordson was to broadcast its fourth quarter analyst conference call on its website at 8:30 a.m. Friday. The call will be recorded and available for two weeks on the site for anyone unable to listen live.
