Canton's Job-Applications.com awards three $1,000 working-parent scholarships

CANTON, Ohio - Job-Applications.com announced this week three winners of the company's $1,000 Working Parent Scholarship. The scholarships are designed to help working parents cover the costs of higher education, according to a press release from the company.

None of the three winning students are from Ohio. Scholarship applicants submitted a 600-to-1,000 word essay on how to successfully balance parenthood, working and excelling in school.

The next Job-Applications.com scholarship will be awarded to an Ohioan. The deadline for the Ohio Scholarship is Aug. 14.

Akron's Austen BioInnovation gets funding from Knight Foundation, State of Ohio

AKRON, Ohio - The Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron (ABIA) announced funding commitments of up to $5 million this week from the two sources.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, a founding partner of ABIA, renewed its support with a plan to provide up to $4 million to advance Northeast Ohio's economic viability and innovation ecosystem. In addition, the State of Ohio has awarded nearly $1 million to expand ABIA's advanced medical prototyping center and to purchase additional advanced manufacturing equipment, reads a press release sent by the company.

Angstrom Graphics inks multiyear deal with News America Marketing

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Angstrom Graphics, Cleveland's largest creative, electronic media, printing and fulfillment company, has signed a multiyear contract with News America Marketing, according to a press release.

The agreement, worth $50 Million, ensures that Angstrom will continue to provide custom printing and fulfillment services to one of the nation's premier marketing service companies through their network of more than 58,000 retail stores.

Beachwood's Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance starts program for BEAMs

BEACHWOOD, Ohio - Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance this week introduced SkyBEAM (Building Envelope Asset Mapping) for use throughout Canada, according to a press release from the company.

SkyBEAM uses unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with high-resolution thermographic (infrared) and video cameras to help locate where facilities may be leaking energy through gaps in the roof, facade or elsewhere, or where they may have wet insulation or other potential problems.

Collinwood announces initiative to launch five new businesses on East 185th Street

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- In an effort to continue progress in the Waterloo Arts and Entertainment District, the Collinwood neighborhood has started a business development initiative called ActiVacant, according to a press release.

This program is designed to incubate five new businesses into the East 185th Street Business District located in North Shore Collinwood over the next three years. It also includes a variety of incentives including a tier-based rental structure that increases incrementally to fair market value within 24 months. In addition, the businesses are also eligible to receive semi-annual monetary incentives totaling up to $3,000 by attending merchant meetings and promoting ActiVacant throughout the community.

Qualifications to participate in the ActiVacant program include a solid business plan, an online sales component and agreement to participate in the filming of a documentary that will help promote their business, entrepreneurship and East 185th Street.

To sign up to be considered for the program, applicants must complete and return an application to Northeast Shore Development Corp. either online at www.activacant.com, via email at jdibaggio@northeastshores.com or via USPS to Northeast Shores Development Corp. Attn: Julia DiBaggio- 317 E. 156th St., Cleveland, Ohio 44110 by 5 p.m. Aug. 14.

Marco's Pizza reveals growth strategy for Cleveland in coming years

 

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Marco's Pizza, the fastest-growing pizza franchise in the United States, is targeting the Cleveland market for growth in 2014, according to a press release from the company.

With 37 franchise locations already open and operating in the area, four additional units are slated to open by the end of this year. The company also announced it will add 10 more locations over the next three to five years. The new franchise locations would create approximately 400 new jobs.
