NASA Glenn Research Center's acting director, Ramon "Ray'' Lugo III, becomes permanent head on July 18, the space agency announces.
BROOK PARK - NASA Glenn Research Center's acting director will become its permanent head July 18, the space agency's top official said today.
Ramon "Ray'' Lugo III will step in as permanent director of the 3,000-plus work force at the Brook Park campus, said NASA Administrator Charles Bolden.
Bolden, who is visiting NASA Glenn and Cleveland today, said in a news release that Lugo "is a tremendous leader who brings decades of experience and important skills to this job.''
Lugo has been acting director since March, after Woodrow Whitlow left for a top administrative post at NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Lugo was named NASA Glenn's deputy director in November 2007. His 35-year career includes stints as deputy manager of the Launch Services Program at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and executive director of the Cape Canaveral Spaceport Management Office.
Lugo will direct the efforts of civil servants and contractors who do research and systems development in space propulsion, communications, aeronautics and microgravity sciences.
