Data from Ohio's shale gas and oil wells is finally trickling in, and the production numbers are increasing.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio's horizontal shale wells produced more than 1.4 million barrels of oil and more than 43 billion cubic feet of natural gas in the last three months of 2013.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources released the data Friday, noting that the production came from 352 wells in the eastern part of the state.
The ODNR reported that 397 Utica and Marcellus shale wells had been drilled by the end of the third quarter, but that 45 wells were waiting on pipelines to be built to move the gas.
Other statistical data in the report on the 352 active wells included:
- The average amount of oil produced was 4,089 barrels.
- The average amount of gas produced was 122,514,000 cubic feet.
- The average number of days in production was 62.
The agency said Oklahoma-based Gulfport Energy's "Boy Scout" well in Harrison County was the highest producing well, at 26,095 barrels of oil in 80 days of production.
Denver-based Antero Resources' "Gary" well in Monroe County set the record for natural gas production, at 1.33 billion cubic feet during 67 days of production.
Compared to the department's third quarter production statistics, oil production increased by 8 percent and natural gas production by 28 percent.
The state is still compiling first and second quarter production results. Before the law was changed last year, producers were required to report production numbers only once a year.
The department is still verifying production statistics for the first three months of this year.
