GREEN, Ohio -- Family-owned Buehler's Fresh Foods Supermarket is opening its 14th store today at 4045 South Main St. in Portage Lakes, Summit County.
The store, which until yesterday was an IGA grocery, was bought by the Buehler family's E&H Family Group this summer and was extensively remodeled and redecorated prior to today's debut as a Buehler's Fresh Foods market. E&H also owns 13 other Buehler's and 12 Ace Hardware stores in Ohio.
Store manager Jim Fox said the company kept all 41 former IGA employees and added another 11, with more workers expected to be hired in coming months.
As at other Buehler's, the store includes a "scratch bakery" featuring cream sticks and custom decorated cakes, expanded produce, dairy and deli departments, and chef-prepared foods, the company said in a statement.
Customers can also use Buehler's Click, Load & Go personal shopper program.
The meat department sells Certified Angus Beef, Farmland all natural pork and local Gerber's Poultry. The beer and wine department offers more than 300 craft and branded brews and 600 wines.
The store also has a filtered water machine, Rug Doctor, postage stamps, American Greetings cards, Ohio Lottery, money orders, propane exchange, gift cards and prepaid cell phone cards.
The Portage Lakes store will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Opening weekend activities include face painting, a caricature artist and costumed characters from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, including Certified Clyde from Certified Angus Beef, Frito Lay's Chester Cheetah, and Buehler's mascot, Spike the pineapple.
