AVON, Ohio -- Choice Hotels International Inc. and Ceres Enterprises LLC are building Northeast Ohio's first Cambria Suites hotel at 35600 Detroit Rd. in Avon.
The 113-room Cambria Suites, the City of Avon's second hotel after the Fairfield Inn & Suites, is designed for business and leisure travelers who might be in town for meetings at nearby Cleveland Clinic health centers, the Ford Motor Co., AJ Rose Manufacturing Co., or ShurTech Brands LLC. It is expected to be finished by early next fall and employ about 50 people.
"We have a lot of folks who come in from all over the world, and when the Fairfield Marriott fills up, they end up staying in Westlake or Elyria," said Avon Mayor James Smith. He welcomes the chance for the city to benefit from visitors staying and spending in Avon instead of having to go elsewhere.
"What's nice about it is the bed tax: 3 percent for the City of Avon and 3 percent for Lorain County (on top of the room rate), which could be $60,000 to $80,000 a year," he said.
The Avon Cambria Suites will be located across from Heritage North School and behind Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream.
"The rooms, typically larger than traditional hotel rooms, will exude a more intimate decor and offer separate work and living areas with ergonomic chairs, moveable desk and upscale linens," the company said in a statement.
Each suite will include: two flat-screen LCD televisions, a CD/DVD player, MP3 jacks and complimentary wired and wireless high-speed Internet access.
As at other Cambria Suites hotels, other amenities include: Reflect, a casual dining area with grab-and-go salads and sandwiches, dinner items, liquor, wine, beer, and a barista bar with coffee and a hot breakfast buffet; Refresh, a fitness center with a pool and hot tub/spa; and Refill, a 24-7 convenience store with energy drinks, snacks and other items. There are 18 Cambria Suites nationwide, with nearly 30 more being developed, the company said.
Ceres Enterprises, a Westlake company owned and managed by Chief Executive Frank Crisafi and his son, David, company president, also operates a Cambria Suites in Noblesville, Ind., the Hilton Garden Inn at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, and a Residence Inn and a Fairfield Inn & Suites in Troy, Ohio, according to its website.
"When we sought to expand our hotel portfolio, Cambria Suites was an obvious choice," David Crisafi said in a statement. "The brand offers a unique value proposition in the upscale category with amenities that allow travelers to be at their best."
