Giant Eagle is looking for: pharmacy techs, graphic artists, catering, delivery drivers, beauty experts, houseware sales, floral sales, bulk and specialty food sales, children's learning and activity center, wine stewards, maintenance, meat cutters, bakers, cake decorators, chefs and "food ambassadors."
SOLON, Ohio -- Giant Eagle Inc. is filling about 450 positions at its first Cleveland-area Market District store in Solon opening later this summer.
But because the Pittsburgh grocer is also closing its regular Giant Eagle store in Solon and will be moving employees over to the new store, it's unclear exactly how many new workers will be hired.
The Solon Market District store will employ more than twice the number of workers at the Solon Giant Eagle, said spokesman Daniel Donovan.
"To achieve the needed staffing level, we are conducting job fairs as well as evaluating the best placement opportunities for our current Solon Giant Eagle team members, whether that be at the new Market District or other nearby Giant Eagle Inc. locations," he said via email.
"These efforts are ongoing, and the net job creation from the new Solon Market District will depend upon the mix of current and new team members."
The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Solon Community Center, 35000 Portz Parkway.
The company is looking for: pharmacy techs, graphic artists, catering, delivery drivers, beauty experts, house ware sales, floral sales, bulk and specialty food sales, children's learning and activity center, wine stewards, maintenance, meat cutters, bakers, cake decorators, chefs and "food ambassadors." Positions are full- and part-time and include day, evening and overnight shifts.
Applicants can apply at careers.gianteagle.com or learn more about the Market District at www.marketdistrict.com .
The new Market District store will open at an unnamed date in the new Solon Village Shopping Center. The Solon Giant Eagle would close at midnight the day before the Market District store opens, whenever that is.
Market District, a concept Giant Eagle launched first in Pittsburgh, is designed to be a destination food store, with coffee bars, fresh pasta, charcuterie and seafood.
It's almost the polar opposite of the company's no-frills Valu King concept in Brooklyn, Eastlake and Ravenna.
Giant Eagle operates four Market District stores in Pittsburgh and one in Columbus. A second Northeast Ohio Market District store is planned for Strongsville later this year.
