CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ford Motor Co. plans to hold a news conference Tuesday to discuss its future plans for its Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake.

Gov. John Kasich, Ford officials and representatives of the United Auto Workers will be at the event.

Ford on Monday was set to formally ask for state tax breaks to help fund the $128 million planned transition from making vans at the plant to making large, commercial trucks.

News of that transition came in October when the automaker agreed to a new four-year contract with the UAW. The union agreed to a deal that included no raises in return for work guarantees at several plants.

Ford plans to phase out production of the Econoline vans built in Avon Lake within the next few years in favor of the Transit vans its sells in Europe. Ford plans to make those Tranists in Kansas City.

The company's commercial truck line had been built in Mexico under a joint venture with Navistar.
