GM plans 'major production announcement' in Lordstown, with video

Lordstown is set to start building the new Chevrolet Cruze today, a small car that will replace the Cobalt now built there. Many people in the Youngstown area are expecting the company to announce it will resume the plant's third production shift.

LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- General Motors plans to make a "major production announcement" at its Lordstown plant today. Many people in the Youngstown area are expecting the company to announce the resumption of the plant's third production shift.

Lordstown is set to start building the new Chevrolet Cruze today, a small car that will replace the Cobalt now built there. Capable of more than 40 miles per gallon on the highway, the Cruze has been on sale in Europe and Asia for the past year.

GM officials declined to comment on what they would be announcing, but major politicians including Gov. Ted Strickland, Rep. Tim Ryan and the local elected leaders plan to attend the announcement.
