The Brunswick store, at 3437 Center Rd., offers one of Pet Valu's most-popular features: a self-service pet-washing station where pet parents can scrub their dogs, cats, pigs, goats, and other small animals for $10 plus tax.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Pet Valu, a new retail pet supply store opening in Brunswick this Saturday, sells thousands of products to feed, walk, pamper and play with your pet. But one of its most popular features is a self-service pet-washing station where pet parents can scrub their dogs, cats, pigs, goats, and other small animals.
For $10 plus tax for a 30-minute wash, "we provide everything you need: shampoo, apron, towel, and even a professional high-velocity dryer," Pet Valu says on its website. "All washing stations are elevated to ensure that you can wash your pet at a comfortable height, and there are easy-access steps so your pet can walk right into the tub.
"No more back strain or knee pain from washing your dog in your own bath tub. No freezing-cold water from the backyard hose. Best of all our Pet Experts clean up the mess!" The price also includes a treat for pets who behave during their bath.
Pet Valu, a Canadian retail chain based in Markham, Ontario, specializes in pet food, treats, toys and accessories. Its stores carry more than 7,000 items including "holistic and premium brands of pet foods and treats" as well as pet supplies for dogs, cats, companion birds, wild birds, fish, reptiles, and small animals.
The Brunswick store at 3437 Center Road opens at 9 a.m. Saturday, and will be the company's seventh store in Northeast Ohio. It follows openings in North Ridgeville and Shaker Heights in early May. Pet Valu also has stores in Berea, Parma, Twinsburg, and Wooster.
Saturday's grand opening in Brunswick will also feature a face painter and clown, as well as games, raffles, refreshments, and goody bags of animal supplies for the first 50 customers who buy something.
Animal rescue shelters, including Storm Angels Rescue, will also be there with pets for adoption and to offer pet services. Pet Valu says its in-store pet experts were trained in pet care and nutrition by the University of California Davis Extension School.
On July 11, Pet Valu merged with Pet Supermarket in Sunrise, Florida, to create what it said was the third largest pet specialty retailer in North America, with more than 930 stores from Miami to Vancouver. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The combined business is called Pet Retail Brands, and is expected to generate about $1 billion in combined retail sales, but both Pet Valu and Pet Supermarket will continue to operate as separate companies.
