2016 Tax Day freebies good through April 18 include burgers and ice cream cones

From free burgers and ice cream cones to discounted bagels and Italian dinners, Americans could end up saving a bit of what they paid in state and federal taxes with these Tax Day freebies.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Restaurants and retailers are again trying to soften the blow of giving Uncle Sam a share of your hard-earned paycheck, with a slew of Tax Day freebies and deals redeemable today through Monday, April 18.

In case you missed it, this year's Tax Day deadline has been moved to Monday, because April 16 is Emancipation Day, the anniversary of when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act -- and a legal holiday in Washington, D.C., where the Internal Revenue Service is based.

From free burgers and ice cream cones to discounted bagels and Italian dinners, Americans could end up saving a bit of what they paid in state and federal taxes.

"We're cutting taxpayers a break by asking you to lay down your wallet and pick up the mic!" declares The Hard Rock Cafe, which is repeating its "Sing for your Supper" promotion: a free half-pound Certified Angus Beef Legendary Burger and seasoned fries for those willing to belt out their favorite tunes from on April 18.

The offer is good from 4-7 p.m. at the Tower City restaurant in Downtown Cleveland, and from noon to 2 p.m. and from 5-7 p.m. at the Hard Rock Rocksino in Northfield Park.
