TTI Floor Care North America plans to close its North Canton distribution center by the end of July and 96 employees will lose their jobs.
NORTH CANTON, Ohio - TTI Floor Care North America plans to close its North Canton distribution center by the end of July and 96 employees will lose their jobs.
The Hong Kong-based company, has iconic vacuuming and carpet-cleaning brands that include Hoover, Dirt Devil and Oreck.
Gary Appel, VP of operations for TTI Floor Care North America, said it was a strategic, but difficult decision for the company, and is in no way a reflection of the team's performance. The global company determined that there was excess capacity in the Midwest. The company is keeping its Glenwillow operations, which has about 63 employees.
Appel said the jobs will be phased out in the upcoming months and the company will work with agencies for career outplacement services. The 220,000 square-foot-facility on Shuffell Drive is a legacy from the Hoover company.
TTI combined Hoover with its existing Dirt Devil and Royal operations in Glenwillow, to create TTI Floor Care North America, the largest floor-care business in North America.
This is not the first closure notice from the company. TTI bought Hoover in 2007 and soon after announced plans to close the company's historic vacuum cleaner factory in North Canton, eliminating about 750 jobs. At the time, the company employed about 400 at its headquarters and research and development center in Glenwillow.
