CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Dominion East Ohio is planning to build a new training center for its field employees and firefighters responding to pipeline damage, gas leaks, and other gas emergencies.

The 37,000-square-foot facility will be located on a 17-acre site at 418 E. Hines Hill Road in the Village of Boston Heights, close to Ohio Route 8 and an Ohio Turnpike exchange as well I-271 in nearby Macedonia.

The company expects construction to begin this month and the new center to employ 12 to 14 when it opens in December 2016.

The training center replaces one at the company's headquarters on E. 55th Street in Cleveland and smaller training sites throughout Northeast Ohio, said the company.

In addition to classroom and related indoor facilities, the center will also include a "Training Town," to simulate a residential neighborhood, said Tracy Oliver, Dominion spokeswoman.

"Controlled scenarios will be built into training modules that will allow employees to further develop their leak detection and investigation skills.

"There will also be an underground pipeline loop constructed to train employees on pipeline cleaning, inspection and maintenance tasks, as well as to perform corrosion monitoring and learn how to troubleshoot problem areas."
